Mzansi Patterns was born from a simple observation, many people have the skills to sew, but lack access to affordable sewing patterns that allow them to turn their skills into opportunities.
Across South Africa, many aspiring designers and sewing enthusiasts complete short sewing courses, learning to operate a sewing machine and construct basic garments. However, the technical skill of patternmaking is often overlooked. When they want to create more specialised garments, develop their own designs, or start a clothing business, they find themselves relying on professional patternmakers whose services can be expensive.
Mzansi Patterns exists to bridge that gap.
We create South African-inspired sewing patterns that are accessible, practical, and affordable. By making these patterns available to a wider market, we aim to help sewists, emerging designers, small clothing businesses, and aspiring entrepreneurs turn their ideas into finished garments without the high cost of commissioning custom patterns.
Our vision goes beyond selling patterns. It is about empowering people who already possess sewing skills with the tools they need to become more independent, creative, and economically active.
We believe that access to the right tools should not be a barrier to creativity or entrepreneurship.
